Abstract

  1. Gudang Garamm is one of the leading cigarette industries or companies in the country which was founded in the city of Kediri, East Java in 1958. Until now, Gudang Garamm is well known in the national and international arena as a producer of high quality kretek cigarettes. In the course of this company, PT. Gudang Garamm is full of twists and turns – both success and problems, including problems with workers and employees. Industrial conflicts occurred between PT. Gudang Garamm with its employees was coloured by mass action demanding PT. Gudang Garamm. The three main problems that triggered this conflict were, firstly, the unilateral layoffs of 12,000 employees, which resulted in the income of the workers who had been dependent on the company stopping and of course it would also affect the economic life of the 20,000 families of workers affected by the layoffs; the second, in terms of the regional minimum wage (UMR); the third, the problem of outsourcing and contract employees.
